ProCurve Manager
3.0 Overview:
HP ProCurve Manager, a Microsoft Windows-based network
management solution for managing HP ProCurve devices, is a free
software package that can be downloaded from the ProCurve Web
site. It provides all the basic tools needed to handle a network
effectively, along with a 60-day trial version of HP ProCurve
Manager Plus 3.0. HP ProCurve Manager 3.0 is a solution focused
for small to medium-sized businesses that want to monitor basic
device health, capture and browse SNMP and syslog events, and
map network devices. With ProCurve switches and ProCurve Manager
3.0, users will gain superior return on management, security,
choice, and flexibility.
- Free HP ProCurve device management software
- Auto-discovers, configures, and monitors devices
- Network topology and mapping
- Device alerts and troubleshooting
- For use with up to 50 network devices
Features:
Manageability:
- Automatic device discovery: HP ProCurve Manager uses IEEE Link Layer Discovery Protocol (LLDP), Address Resolution Protocol (ARP), Ping, and other protocols that allow fast discovery of all HP ProCurve manageable network devices or any device that supports the standard. A manual discovery mode provides the option of adding network devices to granularly adopt to the network. Customers can also define key remote subnets and key devices within the remote subnets as desired based on their needs.
- Device management:
Some device-focused tasks can be
performed directly by the HP ProCurve
Manager interface, or users can access
Web and command-line interfaces with the
click of a button to manage individual
devices from inside the tool.
Monitor and diagnostics:
- Alerts and
troubleshooting: An Events
Summary screen displays alerts to
users and categorizes them by
severity, making it easier to track
where bottlenecks and problems exist
in the network. Alerts present
detailed information on the problem
and severity down to the specific
port. Users can also be alerted to
network issues via e-mail, so that
users do not have to be sitting in
front of a console to receive an
alert.
Ease of use:
- Updated user interface: HP ProCurve Manager 3.0 provides an updated, more intuitive user interface that
delivers key information in a single front pane, including device status, top traffic overview, event information,
and configuration status. Easy single-click entry gives users the control to help troubleshoot or find specific
information about the network, and makes finding and using the HP ProCurve Manager platform features easier.
- Topology and mapping: This intuitive network map allows users to view their entire network. The software automatically
creates a map of discovered network devices, regions, and agent connections. Maps are similar to realistic device images,
provide color-coded information to reflect device status, and can be viewed at multiple levels (physical view, subnet view,
agent view, region view, or VLAN view).

Additional processing power may
be necessary for extensive
traffic monitoring. Some
degredation in performance may
be expected the greater the
number of devices attached to
the network. Specifications are
subject to change.
